Repeated ‘sexual misconduct’ gets Jacksonville doctor’s license suspended, state says
A doctor at a UF Health Jacksonville clinic kissed a neck mole on one female patient, inappropriately touched the breasts and vagina of another patient and kissed a third patient on the mouth, the Florida Department of Health said.
Then, the state said, Dr. Michael Scheer sometimes tried to give them cash. Once, Scheer left $150 in a woman’s underwear.
All this was enough for an emergency suspension order (ESO) on Scheer’s license on May 26. Online records say the 72-year-old ‘s license expired on March 31. The ESO said Scheer resigned from UF Health Jacksonville on Oct. 17.
The ESO said Scheer “violated the trust (his patients) placed in him when he engaged or attempted to engage in sexual misconduct with them.”
Scheer worked out of UF Health Jacksonville’s Total Care Clinic, the ESO said, when a woman in her 50s (“Patient 1”) came in with her septuagenarian mother (“Patient 2”) to check out a fever and low blood pressure on Oct. 1.
When Patient 2 asked Scheer to check out a mole on her neck, “Dr. Scheer examined the mole on (Patient 2’s) neck and then kissed the mold and hugged (Patient 2). Dr. Scheer told (Patient 2) that she was pretty.”
Kiss not on her list
Another woman in her 50s (“Patient 3”) came in with her 7-year-old nephew on Oct. 3.
“Dr. Scheer approached Patient 3 and placed both of his hands on her cheeks and kissed Patient 3 on the mouth,” the ESO said.
After Patient 3 pushed him away, the ESO said, Scheer whipped out $20 and tried to give it to the boy.
Followup and a house call
Patient 1 came back Oct. 11 for a follow up. Scheer, the ESO said, “groped (Patient 1’s) breasts several times and asked if (Patient 1) had implants because her breasts ‘felt so good.’”
Though Patient 1 tried to push Scheer away, he proceeded to tell her about marital problems and tried to kiss her on the mouth.
“(Patient 1) arrived home and found $100 in her pants pocket that was not there when she went to see Dr. Scheer,” the ESO said.
(Patient 1) canceled her next followup with Scheer. He called on Oct. 15 to see if she wanted him to make a house call. Though (Patient 1) rejected that idea, Scheer showed up at her front door that night.
“Dr. Scheer entered into (Patient 1’s) bedroom and instructed her to lie down on the bed,” the ESO said. “During Dr. Scheer’s visit, Dr. Scheer touched (Patient 1’s) breasts and vaginal area.
“At the end of the visit, Dr. Scheer left $150 in (Patient 1’s) underwear.”
