A Palm Beach company’s imported string cheese is recalled after state found listeria
Lake Worth-based Limena recalled at least one lot of its 1-pound/16-ounce blocks of Salvadorean String Cheese (Quesillo Cheese). Routine testing by the Florida Department of Agriculture found listeria in a block.
The company-written, FDA-posted recall notice says “production of the product has been suspended while the FDA and the company continue to investigate the source of the problem.”
This covers lot No. 1041020. The lot number can be found on the package, but there’s no expiration date. If you have this cheese, the company requests you toss it in the garbage.

Listeria brings high fever, harsh headaches, stomachaches, stiffness, nausea and diarrhea to 1,600 Americans each year. About 250 die. The elderly, children under 5 and those with damaged immune systems are most vulnerable to listeria’s worst effects. Stillbirths or miscarriages can be caused if a pregnant woman gets listeria.
