Fatal crash shuts down southbound Alligator Alley
COLLIER COUNTY A crash involving at least one fatality has completely shut down the southbound lanes of Alligator Alley, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
At about 6 p.m. Friday, troopers were responding to a multiple-vehicle crash between mile marker 49 and 50 in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75, according to FHP Sgt. Jeff Rongish. One fatality has been confirmed so far.
“The outside southbound lane is currently closed; however, both lanes are anticipated to be closed shortly,” Rongish said in a news release. “Southbound motorists are encouraged to seek an alternate route.”
The crash is located about midway between the stretch of Alligator Alley connecting the two coasts of Florida and crossing the Florida Everglades.
