SATURDAY MARCH 19 UPDATE: The recall posted to the FDA site March 18, a week after it was originally made.

Kao USA, parent company of Jergens, recalled 15 lots of Jergens Ultra Healing Moisturizer in 3-ounce and 10-ounce containers for a possible Pluralibacter gergoviae bacterial contamination.

Kao made issued the recall on March 11. As many companies do, Kao put out a press release via PR Newswire, not a place many consumers peruse, without photos of the product. But Kao didn’t make reference to it on Jergens’ Facebook page, Instagram page or its website.

But the Publix supermarket chain, which tends to post recalls quickly and sells the 10-ounce bottles of the moisturizer, posted the recall on its website.

Kao’s release calls the problem “a bacterium which typically poses little medical risk to healthy people,” but admits, “people who have certain health problems such as weakened immune systems may be more susceptible to infections.”

Kao recalled 3-ounce containers with lot Nos. ZU712851; ZU712861; ZU712871; ZU712881; ZU712911; ZU722851; ZU722861; ZU722871; and ZU722881; and 10-ounce bottles with lot Nos. ZU722741; ZU732791; ZU722771; ZU732801; ZU722781; ZU732811; ZU732781; and ZU732821.

“Kao USA Inc. has informed regulatory authorities of the issue and we are working with our partners on improved cleaning and sanitization practices so that similar issues can be prevented in the future,” the recall announcement said.
