Scott Farrington cruised to an easy victory in Tuesday’s general election to become Manatee County’s next Supervisor of Elections.

After defeating incumbent election chief James Satcher in the August primary election, Farrington only faced a write-in challenger. According to the unofficial results posted Tuesday evening, Farrington secured nearly 97% of the vote.

Before resigning earlier this year, Farrington spent more than 21 years working as an election official in Manatee and Sarasota counties.

“I believe in the importance of having elections that voters trust,” Farrington said in a previous interview with the Bradenton Herald. “I believe that the office needs to be maintained as a nonpartisan and neutral environment. And I believe that I have all of the experience, education and certifications that are required to do that. That leads me to think that I am the best candidate for the position.”

After former Supervisor of Elections Michael Bennett announced his resignation earlier this year, Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed James Satcher, who held a seat on the Manatee County Commission at the time, to serve the remainder of the term.

In August, Satcher lost his campaign to hold the seat for another four years.
