To help voters navigate the sometimes tricky language of amendments and get a better understanding of who and what is on the upcoming Aug. 30 primary election ballot, the Manatee County League of Women Voters will hold an Aug. 1 voter education program at the Bradenton Woman’s Club at 1705 Manatee Ave. W.
The keynote speakers will be Manatee County Supervisor of Elections Mike Bennett with League president Rosalie Shaffer discussing the proposed solar amendment.
“What we hope to do is to help the voters understand the ballot before they vote, so that they feel confident in the choices they make,” Shaffer said, who noted she believes the more people understand what is on their ballot, the more likely they are to vote.
“Primary races are important,” she said. “They’re not just a run-up to the general election.”
Shaffer pointed to such local elections as the Manatee County School Board races, where some could be decided in the primaries.
League volunteers also will conduct voter registration for those not yet registered or are wishing to change their registration. Aug. 1 is the final day to register before the primaries.
The program is free to the public, which is from noon to 1 p.m. and doors will open at 11:30 a.m. for lunch. Reservations are not required and there is a $5 donation for the meal. For more information, call 941-729-9248.
