Gov. Rick Scott says Yale University should move to Florida
Gov. Rick Scott called on Yale University to move to Florida Tuesday, after Connecticut lawmakers proposed a 7 percent tax on the university's net investment profits.
In a release Tuesday morning, Scott called the proposed tax by the Connecticut Legislature on Yale University's $25.6 billion endowment "unfair." He said not only should Yale consider moving to Florida, but all Connecticut businesses should move.
"If Connecticut lawmakers are seriously considering another tax on Yale, businesses and families should be concerned about the other tax increases their Legislature will consider," Scott said in the release. "We would welcome a world-renowned university like Yale to our state and I can commit that we will not raise taxes on their endowment. This would add yet another great university to our state."
Scott touted not raising business taxes or fees in Florida since 2011 and including $1 billion in tax cuts in state budgets over the past two years.
It's not the first time Scott has made targeted remarks about wanting businesses to move from other states to Florida. He has previously released similar statements targeting businesses in Texas, New York, California, Pennsylvania and others.
