‘We need to see Mr. Comey’s memo,’ Buchanan says
U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan is not saying whether he thinks President Donald Trump did anything wrong during a meeting with fired FBI director James Comey, but on Wednesday he called for “transparency” as various investigations of Trump and his staff’s possible connection with Russian interference with the 2016 presidential election continue.
The New York Times on Tuesday reported Comey in February, after a meeting with Trump, wrote a memo in which he described how Trump had asked him to end the FBI’s investigation of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, whom Trump had fired a day earlier because Flynn had mislead Vice President Mike Pence about his dealings with Russian government officials.
“Mr. Comey should be asked to testify in public so that Congress and the American people can get all the facts and learn the truth,” Buchanan, R-Longboat Key, said in a statement. “And we need to see Mr. Comey’s memo regarding his discussion with the president. Transparency is the best disinfectant.”
