Driver fleeing police crashes into car, killing 3 people inside, WI cops say
Three people died when a 19-year-old fled from officers and crashed into another vehicle at a Milwaukee intersection, Wisconsin police said.
Police said they spotted a reckless driver on the city’s northwest side at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, but when officers attempted to pull the man over, he sped away, spurring a chase, WTMJ reported.
The pursuit ended when the driver ran a red light and slammed into the side of a car in the middle of an intersection, police told WISN.
Five people were in the car that was struck, police said, adding that three died and two were injured, Spectrum News reported. The suspect driver survived with non-life-threatening injuries, as did two passengers who were with him, according to police.
The three people who died have been identified by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office as 15-year-old Karlah Ko Moo, 21-year-old Taw Moo May, and Pler Moo, 50, Spectrum reported.
Police say charges will be determined by the district attorney’s office, WISN reported.
When asked about its policy regarding police pursuits, the department told WISN that “pursuits present significant challenges due to the physical, emotional, and financial impact on officers, the public, and fleeing suspects.”
“Recognizing these complexities, MPD is committed to ensuring its training, policies, and risk mitigation strategies reflect national best practices,” the department said.
