Dad buys 100 lottery tickets — and wins 100 times in Virginia. ‘Still in shock’
A plumber spent $100 on 100 lottery tickets with the same combination of numbers — then he won 100 times in Virginia.
Ty Tran, a long-time Pick 4 player, saw the number 13 come up in the game’s daytime drawing on Aug. 23 and decided to use the same number for the evening drawing, the Virginia Lottery said Sept. 10.
The Fairfax County dad bought 100 tickets for $1 each with the numbers 1-3-1-3 and wagered a 50/50 bet, putting $0.50 on his numbers appearing in the exact order and $0.50 on his numbers appearing in any order, lottery officials said.
When the drawing rolled around, he beat the 1-in-10,000 odds 100 times to win $2,900 on each ticket, bring his total amount to $290,000, according to the Virginia Lottery.
“I’m still in shock!” he told lottery officials. “I’m grateful for the win.”
He said he’s thinking of setting aside some of his windfall for his kids’ college funds, in addition to investing in a new work van and some tools.
Fairfax County is part of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area to the west of the city.
