A son said he attacked his father with a metal trash can because the dad was “absolutely possessed by a demon,” Missouri police said.

Todd Fromm went to his father’s Ellisville assisted living facility the night of July 27 and told overnight security he needed to tell his dad about his sister’s health, according to a probable cause statement filed July 28.

The father was in bed trying to sleep when his son started banging on his door, police said. When he answered, Fromm started yelling at him and punching him in the head and torso, police said.

Fromm grabbed a metal trash can and continued to hit his dad with it, police said.

“Dad, I told you I was (going) to kill you,” the son said during the attack, according to the complaint.

The father, who is over 80 years old, suffered multiple fractured ribs and lacerations, including a potential laceration to his kidney, police said. Both of his eyes were also swollen.

Fromm was detained and taken to jail by officers. While en route to the intake facility, police said Fromm started praying in the vehicle and “prayed for death upon those who do not belong to Jesus.”

Fromm was charged with assault and armed criminal action, according to court documents. His bond was set at $250,000.

His attorney information was not listed.

Ellisville is about a 25-mile drive west from St. Louis.
