One Wendy’s employee was stabbed and another was shot to death as the co-workers fought outside their Missouri restaurant, police say.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said the co-workers were in a “dispute over personal matters” around 7:20 a.m. July 29 when it spilled into the parking lot.

When one of the employees was stabbed by the other, the stabbing victim retrieved a gun and fired shots at the second man, police said in a briefing streamed by KSDK.

Police said the gunshot victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been publicly identified.

The stabbing victim was taken to a hospital, police said. His condition is unknown.

It’s unclear what led to the fight between the co-workers, believed to be in their 20s or 30s.

Officers did not say if the stabbing victim could face charges.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred this morning involving two employees outside of the restaurant. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected,” a Wendy’s spokesperson said in a statement to KSDK, adding that it is cooperating in the investigation.
