10-year-old killed in suspected DUI wreck, CA officials say. Now dad is charged
A man is facing a murder charge in the “suspected DUI-related” wreck that killed his 10-year-old son, California officials said.
Aaron Brian Kennedy, 35, from Angwin, is still in the hospital recovering from the crash, but he’ll head to jail when he’s released, the Napa County District Attorney’s Office said in a July 22 news release.
McClatchy News couldn’t immediately find defense attorney information for him on July 23.
Kennedy is accused of crashing into another car in St. Helena on July 18 while driving under the influence of alcohol, prosecutors said. His son, Aiden, was riding with him and was fatally injured, according to prosecutors.
The other car’s driver suffered minor injuries, prosecutors said.
In California, district attorneys can pursue second-degree murder charges in some fatal DUI wrecks under what’s known as the Watson ruling, according to the district attorney’s office. Kennedy also faces other charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury, prosecutors said.
Angwin is about a 75-mile drive west from Sacramento.
