Shootout at high school alumni event injures 1, Alabama cops say. 4 charged
Four people were arrested and charged after shots rang out at an Alabama high school alumni event, injuring one person, police said.
Officers responded to the shooting after 7 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Woodlawn High School, the Birmingham Police Department said in a July 15 news release.
Two groups of men were in the back parking lot of the school when the shooting began, police said.
One woman was injured in the gunfire and taken to a hospital in a private car, police said.
McClatchy News reached out to the school district July 15 but did not receive an immediate response.
Four men, all in their 20s, were charged with first-degree assault, according to police.
The investigation is ongoing, and the men are at the Jefferson County Jail on a $30,000 bond, police said.
“Thank God a life was not taken,” Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett said in the release. “We want to make sure these shooters remain behind bars, so that they don’t have the opportunity to take an innocent life.”
