A homeowner shot another man when their hangout turned into a “heated argument” and the other man got a knife, Arizona deputies said.

The two were drinking on Saturday, June 7, and got into a dispute, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said in a June 10 post on Facebook.

The other man left the homeowner’s place, “then allegedly returned with a large knife, threatening to kill everyone,” according to deputies.

The homeowner’s family was inside, and he locked the doors, deputies said.

The knife-wielding man made threats and banged on the windows and doors, deputies said, adding that the homeowner “repeatedly told the man to leave.”

“When the knife-wielding man advanced, the homeowner first shot him in the leg,” then fired more shots when he kept advancing, deputies said.

The man was flown to a hospital and is expected to recover, according to deputies, who said he may face charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct with a deadly weapon.

Yavapai County is in central Arizona, just north of the Phoenix metro area, and includes Prescott.
