A man was shot after California police say he intervened to protect his 17-year-old brother from a neighbor’s attack.

Deputies arrived at a Yucaipa mobile park home after getting a call about a shooting just before 7 p.m. Sunday, March 23, and found a wounded man, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Through an investigation, deputies said they learned the 21-year-old was driving to his home when he saw a neighbor physically attacking his teenage brother.

He stepped in, protecting his brother from the man, later identified as Kris Morgan, 60, deputies said.

Morgan threatened the man with a gun, saying he would kill him and then went inside his own home, deputies said.

Then, “moments later,” he came back out with a silver revolver and started shooting at the man and his brother, according to deputies.

As the man tried to leave in his car, he was shot in his left arm, deputies said.

Deputies on scene found Morgan leaving his home “with the silver revolver in hand,” the sheriff’s department said.

When deputies spoke with Morgan, he dropped the gun and was taken into custody, the department said.

Deputies said they searched Morgan’s home after getting a search warrant and found eight guns, including the silver revolver used in the shooting.

The injured man was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition, deputies said.

Morgan was arrested on a count of attempted murder and is being held on $2.3 million bail, according to deputies.

He is scheduled to appear in court March 25, jail records show.

Yucaipa is about a 75-mile drive east from Los Angeles.
