Pup was close to death after dog attack. Then a Facebook post changed everything
A good boy is on the mend in Texas thanks to the power of social media — and animal lovers.
Baxter, a sweet pup with soulful eyes, is healing at the Gulf Coast Humane Society in Corpus Christi, according to a Feb. 16 Facebook post. But a few days prior, he was knocking on death’s door after he was attacked by other dogs.
“Baxter was ready to give up — until help arrived,” the shelter said. “(He) was found lying alone in a field, too weak to move, his body covered in fresh wounds from a brutal dog attack. He had no one to protect him, no shelter from the world that had been so cruel to him. If someone hadn’t seen him and posted his story on Facebook, he might not have made it through the night.”
The shelter wasn’t able to rescue him on their own for legal reasons.
“But help was on the way. Corpus Christi Animal Care Services stepped in to rescue him because, as a private shelter, we don’t have the legal authority to remove animals from private property,” the shelter said. “That’s why our partnership with CCACS is so critical—because together, we can make sure no suffering animal is left behind.”
Thankfully, they were able to get to Baxter in time and he is on the path to recovery. He is not available for adoption just yet.
“Now, Baxter is safe in our care and getting the treatment he needs. His wounds will take time to heal, but his spirit remains strong,” the shelter said. “Despite everything he’s been through, he still wags his tail, soaks up affection, and trusts in the kindness of those around him.”
