Dad kills wife, shoots 21-year-old daughter on the phone with 911, Indiana police say
Police in Indiana said a man killed his wife and injured his daughter before he is believed to have died by suicide, news outlets report.
At 7:41 p.m. Nov. 29, police were called to a home in Portage for a domestic dispute, according to a Nov. 30 Facebook post by the Portage Police Department.
A person at the home called 911 and told dispatchers that “her father was intoxicated and throwing items inside the house,” police said. The caller then told dispatchers that her father had a gun.
Dispatchers heard the man saying that “everyone was going (to) die,” then they heard gunshots, according to police.
When officers arrived, they heard gunshots from inside the home, police said.
Police went inside the home and found 45-year-old Charles Manville dead. Police said they believe he took his own life. They then found his wife, 46-year-old Brandy Manville, dead with gunshot wounds, according to police.
A third person was found, who family identified as Brandy Manville’s 21-year-old daughter, according to a GoFundMe account. She was found alive with gunshot wounds and taken to a hospital, officials said.
“Our hearts are broken, and we will forever have a hole in our hearts. Now her daughter has the fight of her life ahead of her,” the GoFundMe page said.
Police said a motive for the shooting is unknown.
Brandy Manville was a secretary at Portage High School, according to WGN.
“Brandy was not just a colleague. She was a mother, a mentor, and a friend to many,” the school principal said at a gathering honoring Brandy Manville, according to WLS. “Her kindness, wisdom and unwavering support touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.”
McClatchy News reached out to Portage High School for comment but didn’t immediately hear back.
Police said no one else was found in the home.
