Boat capsizes in ocean with five people on board, killing one, California sheriff says
A boat with five people aboard capsized in the ocean near Bodega Bay, killing one person, California sheriff’s officials reported.
Callers reported boaters in distress near Salmon Creek just north of the Northern California bay at 1:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The boat capsized, deputies said.
People were seen in the water waving bright objects to get the attention of others, KRON reported.
Rescuers saved four people, who were taken to hospitals, but one person aboard died, deputies said.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation, deputies said.
The incident comes after two other boats capsized near Bodega Bay, also resulting in fatalities, KRON reported.
Bodega Bay is about a 65-mile drive northwest from San Francisco.
