A driver repeatedly ran over a man walking in a shopping center parking lot, killing him, before fleeing, California police reported.

The driver of a Dodge pickup truck hit a man in a Fairfield parking lot, then ran him over multiple times, at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, city police said in a news release.

Another motorist followed the driver as he fled while notifying police, officers said.

Officers stopped Vakautakava Tangitau, 25, and arrested him without incident on a charge of murder, police said.

It’s not known why Tangitau ran the man over, police said. They did not name the man killed in the incident.

Investigators ask anyone with information to call 707-428-7300.

Fairfield is about a 45-mile drive southwest from Sacramento.
