A 74-year-old man moving hay on a farm with a heavy piece of machinery accidentally trapped a 15-year-old boy, killing him, Iowa deputies said.

The man was operating a skid loader, a piece of equipment that uses hydraulic lifting arms with an attachment at the end, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office said in an Oct. 28 news release.

The man was operating the machine when the 15-year-old got trapped between the skid loader and the bale sphere, deputies said. The bale sphere is an attachment to the skid loader with prongs to stab and pick up hay bales.

The teen, identified by deputies as Logan Paul from Ryan, Iowa, was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the release. On Oct. 29, deputies announced that Paul had died, according to a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The sheriff’s office said it is continuing to investigate.

Ryan is about a 55-mile drive north from Iowa City.
