A 16-year-old visitor from another school attacked an assistant principal and dragged her by her hair across a parking lot outside a homecoming dance, California police told news outlets.

The “troubling” incident took place outside California High School in San Ramon on Saturday, Oct. 19, Superintendent CJ Cammack said in a message to parents.

An assistant principal approached two teens in the parking lot to inform them students were not allowed to leave the dance early, police told KGO. Neither student attended Cal High.

A 16-year-old boy, who goes to another school in the district, attacked her and dragged her by her hair, police told KRON. The two teens then fled.

Officers found the 16-year-old later that night at his home and arrested him on charges of battery and kidnapping, police told Danville San Ramon.

“We want to be clear that, in no uncertain terms, we take the safety of our students and our staff as a top priority,” Cammack said in the statement.

Police ask anyone with information to call 925-973-2700, Cammack said.

San Ramon is about a 35-mile drive east from San Francisco.
