5-year-old shoots herself with gun found in home, Texas cops say. Stepdad arrested
A 5-year-old girl shot herself after discovering a gun in a home, Texas authorities said.
Other adults and children were in the Houston home when the child may have accidentally fired the shot, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in an Oct. 20 post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The girl was rushed to the hospital and needed surgery, Gonzalez said. She is expected to live, he said.
Her 33-year-old stepdad was arrested and on charges of being a felon in possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance, according to deputies.
Gonzalez said deputies are continuing to investigate.
