A father traveling with his three kids was killed when another driver fired multiple shots at their car during “a road rage incident,” according to investigators in North Carolina.

The suspect, a 75-year-old man, fled the scene, but was later captured with the help of witnesses, the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The incident happened around 4:53 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, near the intersection of Island Point Road and North View Harbour Drive in the Sherrills Ford area, about a 36-mile drive north from Charlotte.

“When deputies arrived they discovered an adult male deceased from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Eyewitnesses informed deputies that another man shot the victim after both stopped and exited their vehicles,” the sheriff’s office reported.

“Eyewitnesses also reported that the shooter fired multiple rounds into the victim’s vehicle during this incident. The victim’s vehicle was occupied at that time by his three children, ages 13, 11 and two. Those victims were not injured.”

Those witnesses gave deputies a description of the suspect and his vehicle, leading deputies to a home two-tenths of a mile south on Island Point Road, officials said.

The suspect, Terrell Eugene Giddens, was arrested at the home, the sheriff’s office said. He is charged with murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder, officials said.

Giddens is being held without bond.

Investigators did not reveal what put the two men at odds.
