Landlord uses shotgun to shoot tenant in ‘unprovoked’ attack, Washington officials say

A landlord was arrested after being accused of shooting his tenant with a shotgun, Washington officials said.

On Oct. 8, deputies got reports that a man had been shot in an “unprovoked” attack by his landlord in a Yacolt home, according to a news release from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The man had been shot in the face and chest with a 12-gauge shotgun and was sent to the hospital for life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

He was in serious but stable condition as of Oct. 9, officials said.

Deputies made their way into the home and detained 50-year-old Jeremie Singer, the family’s landlord and roommate, officials said.

The victim had left the home for a few days before returning home to get some of his belongings, officials said.

When he came back, Singer shot him through the front window of the home, deputies said.

Two days earlier, officers had arrived at the residence on reports of a fight between a landlord and a tenant, officials said.

Singer and the tenant had made threats to one another in the past, deputies said.

Singer was booked into the Clark County Jail on charges of attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, officials said.

Yacolt is about a 40-mile drive northeast of Portland, Oregon.
