Woman’s body found wrapped in blanket at home during welfare check, Georgia cops say
A welfare check led to a woman found dead in the living room of an Atlanta-area home, Georgia deputies said.
Now, a man is charged with murder in connection with her death.
Antonios Pete Kostopoulos, 52, was arrested Oct. 6 after he was found bloodied in the home where deputies also discovered a body wrapped in a blanket, according to an Oct. 8 news release from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the home in Cartersville for a welfare check and to investigate a possible domestic dispute, the sheriff’s office said.
When they didn’t get an answer at the door, authorities forced their way inside and saw Kostopoulos with blood on himself, according to deputies. He was arrested at the scene.
Deputies later found the body of 42-year-old Karina Moreno wrapped in a blanket on the living room floor, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities didn’t say how Kostopoulos and Moreno knew each other.
Kostopoulos faces multiple charges including kidnapping, concealing the death of another, false imprisonment and three counts of aggravated assault, online records show.
Kostopoulos remained in the Bartow County Jail without bond as of Oct. 9.
Cartersville is about a 40-mile drive northwest from downtown Atlanta.
