Woman is shot dead by her sister-in-law’s ex during home invasion, Kentucky cops say
Two people were found shot and killed following a home invasion in Kentucky, authorities said.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home Saturday, Oct. 5, “for an unknown emergency” and found the bodies of the two victims, according to a news release.
The two deaths are believed to have been a murder-suicide, authorities told WHAS.
A man broke into the home and shot 40-year-old Jessica Hager, the sister-in-law of his ex-girlfriend, the Shelby County coroner told WLKY. The man, who has not been identified as of Oct. 7, then shot himself.
Hager’s husband was also in the home and he escaped, WAVE reported.
The couple’s neighbor, Dallas Kelly, described Hager as “a fantastic person,” according to WDRB, which said the victim was a nurse.
A motive for the shooting is unclear, and the sheriff’s office said there is no threat to the public.
Shelby County is about a 35-mile drive southeast from Louisville.
