Newly discovered comet soars over Golden Gate Bridge. See stunning images
A California photographer captured “amazing” images of a newly discovered comet soaring over San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, an Instagram post shows.
Shreenivasan Manievannan caught the stunning images on the morning of Friday, Sept. 27, the Instagram post says.
A time-lapse video with the post shows the comet slowly rising in the sky over the iconic bridge.
Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS was discovered in January 2023 between the orbits of Jupiter and Saturn, the Bell Museum said. It’s also known as C/2023 A3.
Researchers at observatories in China and South Africa discovered the comet, according to the museum. It will pass within 44 million miles of the Earth this month.
The comet is expected to remain visible through October.
Manievannan told SFGate that he positioned his camera about 6 miles from the bridge at Point Bonita to capture the image of the comet over the structure.
