A 911 call about a body lying along a rural Virginia road got even more mysterious when deputies showed up to investigate and found a second body.

The discoveries were made around 9:20 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, along the shoulder of Blue Bird Road in Dundas, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Dundas is about a 33-mile drive north from the North Carolina state line.

“Upon initial investigation, it appeared the ... male subject had sustained a gunshot wound,” the sheriff’s office reported.

“While processing the scene, a body of a ... female was located several hundred yards away on Blue Bird Road also with a gunshot wound.”

Investigators have not yet identified the bodies, which have been taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Richmond, officials said.

The bodies were on different sides of the road, and each had been shot multiple times, Brunswick County Sheriff Brian Roberts told WTVR.

“Someone’s missing a loved one and we certainly need some help identifying them,” he said in a video shared by WTVR.

“This is a pretty wild one from the extent of the magnitude of the distance, the evidence that’s here, the evidence that’s not here — and the mysterious pieces of the puzzle.”

Maps show the area where the bodies were found is sparsely populated and buffered by large blocks of forest land.
