A hiker discovered the body of a 77-year-old man in Logan Canyon, leading to the arrest of the dead man’s son, Utah sheriff’s officials reported.

Someone walking in the Franklin Basin area of the canyon north of Salt Lake City found the body Friday, Sept. 27, the Cache County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Investigators identified the body as Dennis Shaw of Logan, a later news release said.

They arrested his son, Clayton Shaw, 33, on a charge of homicide in the case Saturday, Sept. 28, sheriff’s officials said.

Investigators said the body, which had stab wounds to the chest, appeared to have been killed elsewhere and left in a parking lot in the canyon, KSTU reported.

Officials told KUTV they had responded to several disputes between the father and son recently.

Detectives ask anyone with information to call 435-755-1100.

Logan Canyon is about an 85-mile drive northeast from Salt Lake City.
