A woman’s plot to have her husband killed hit a snag when her hired hitman turned out to be an undercover agent, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Brandi Steverson, 48, of Douglas was arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, as well as conspiracy to commit murder after her plan was foiled, the bureau said in a Sept. 25 news release.

The GBI launched an investigation Sept. 5 at the request of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office. A “concerned citizen” told deputies that Steverson approached them about having her husband killed.

Investigators said she paid an undercover GBI agent, with the “promise to pay more once her husband was killed.”

Steverson was then arrested and taken to the Coffee County Jail, the bureau said.

Authorities didn’t release additional information but said the investigation is ongoing.

Douglas is about an 120-mile drive southeast from Macon.
