A young coyote was rescued after it found itself stuck in a California yard, officials say.

When officers arrived at the San Francisco home, “the coyote tried to hide in a wall, thinking he was invisible,” San Francisco Animal Care and Control wrote in a Sept. 8 Facebook post.

“Happily, it wasn’t a very effective hiding place,” officials said.

Initially, the officers planned to force the coyote, which had been in the yard for days, from hiding so it could run off, resident Francesca Pomeroy told SF Gate.

“But we have a sunken yard, so the animal couldn’t jump high enough to get up the wall,” Pomeroy told the outlet.

Oftentimes, in situations like this, coyotes “freeze and can be secured/handled,” officials said.

As such, the coyote did not need to be sedated as officers removed him from the yard, officials said.

“Don’t do this at home - leave it to the pros,” officials urged.

The coyote was then released back into the wild, officials said.

“We sent him off on a nearby trail in Mount Sutro where he scampered off happily,” Officer Ana Keefe said in the post.

The resident commended the officers’ work.

“Their smiles and care for the animals of this City and its people is incredible,” the resident said in a message to officials, according to a Sept. 5 Facebook post. “Really truly was wonderful to watch.”

So inspiring, that the resident’s 5-year-old now aspires to be an animal officer, the post says.
