Woman killed after wrench crashes through windshield on Alabama highway, family says
An Alabama woman died after a large metal object crashed through the windshield of the car she was riding in, attorneys representing her family say.
Now, her family seeks answers.
Earlie Harris, 58, was in the passenger seat of a vehicle headed southbound on an interstate in Montgomery around 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, when a wrench flew over a concrete barrier and into the windshield, fatally injuring her, according to a statement from law firm Beasley Allen.
“It’s really devastating to our family right now,” said Harris’ son, Cedric, who was driving her to work at the time of the incident, according to WSFA.
“All of a sudden something flew through the air,” Harris told the outlet. “I ducked down and looked up. My mom was bleeding.”
Montgomery Police Department told McClatchy News the investigation is ongoing.
Harris described his mother as caring and hardworking. “She was the glue that held everything together,” he told WSFA.
A Beasley Allen Law Firm spokesperson told McClatchy News they are working with the family to find out where the wrench came from.
“We are offering a reward for the positive ID of the northbound driver responsible for the metal object/wrench,” the law firm said in a statement shared on social media.
