Mother and son among 3 dead with ‘signs of foul play’ in burning home, Texas cops say
Firefighters responding to a house engulfed in flames discovered three people already dead inside under suspicious circumstances, spurring a homicide investigation, Texas officials said.
The call came in at about 7 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, after a home caught fire in Cypress, a Houston suburb, officials with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said during a news briefing.
The blaze has been extinguished, Maj. Saul Suarez said, but two investigations, one an arson investigation and the other homicide, are just getting started.
Three adults were found at the scene, two women and a man, and their bodies “had signs of foul play” and “trauma,” Suarez said.
Officials have not publicly identified anyone but said the man is the son of one of the women. It’s not clear who the other woman was, but Suarez said all three lived at the home.
Most of the home was damaged by the fire, officials added.
Cypress is a roughly 30-mile drive northwest from downtown Houston.
