An “enraged” bull escaped a truck and eventually caused a multi-vehicle crash on the interstate, Massachusetts officials said.

A 1,300 pound black bull escaped from Mathieu Farms while being loaded onto a truck that would take it to a slaughterhouse, according to an Aug. 12 news release by the Raynham Police Department.

After running through several fences, including electrical ones, the bull jumped a 6-foot hill, officials said.

The “highly aggressive” bull then ran onto Interstate 495 causing a multi-car crash, officials said. Three people were sent to the hospital for their injuries.

After running into the woods, the bull went swimming in Lake Nippenicket, officials said.

Officers found the bull before it “quickly and aggressively swam toward the group on shore,” police said.

A Raynham officer shot his rifle, trying to stop the animal, but it didn’t work, officials said.

The officer then fired several more rounds, striking the bull in the leg, officials said.

Once the bull was disabled, officers determined the bull needed to be euthanized, but their gun wasn’t strong enough, officials said.

The owner of the farm where the bull escaped, a legal gun owner, came andeuthanized the bull with his hunting rifle, officials said.

Raynham is about a 40-mile drive south of Boston.
