17-year-old killed in road rage shooting at gas station, Ohio cops say. Man arrested
A 30-year-old man is accused of shooting a 17-year-old boy, killing him in a road-rage related incident, Ohio authorities say.
The shooting happened around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, outside a United Dairy Farmers gas station, according to the Columbus Division of Police. Officers found the 17-year-old gunshot victim unresponsive, police said.
The teen, identified as Gage Anderson, was pronounced dead at a hospital 30 minutes later, according to a police report.
Ten minutes after the shooting, a 911 caller told a dispatcher they saw a man, later identified as the accused shooter, who was “acting suspiciously” and who seemed concerned about a helicopter flying above, Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert told WBNS.
Officers arrested the accused shooter, Skyler Burley, about a mile from the gas station, police said He was driving a vehicle described by witnesses as the vehicle seen leaving the location of the shooting.
Burley was charged with murder and placed in the Franklin County Jail, police said. He and Anderson did not know one another.
Police said the shooting was road-rage related, but they did not offer additional information about what led to the gunfire.
Burley told officers he acted in self-defense, accusing Anderson of lunging at him before firing the fatal shot, WCMH reported.
