An 18-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting his friend in the head as the two played with a gun in Arizona, police said.

The shooting happened Aug. 2 at an apartment complex, the Casa Grande Police Department said in an Aug. 6 Facebook post.

Damone Allen Purnell was at the complex with his close friend, 18-year-old Michael Morgan, police said.

Police said the two were horse-playing with the stolen weapon when it fired, hitting Morgan in the head.

Purnell left the scene after the shooting and was later found in the nearby neighborhood, police said.

Morgan died at a hospital two days later, police said.

Purnell was arrested on a second-degree murder charge.

The charge is being reviewed by the Pinal County Attorney’s Office.

Casa Grande is about a 50-mile drive southeast from Phoenix.
