Mega Millions player wins big in California. Where was the lucky ticket sold?
A Mega Millions ticket sold in California won $810,362 and narrowly missed the $137 million jackpot, lottery officials say.
The ticket matched five winning numbers but not the Mega Ball in the drawing Tuesday, July 2, the California Lottery said.
Nobody won the grand prize, which rises to an estimated $162 million, with a cash option of approximately $74.5 million, for the next drawing Friday, July 5, the national Mega Millions site said.
The winning numbers were 4, 8, 19, 31 and 45 with a Mega Ball of 11. The Megaplier was 4.
The $810,362 ticket was sold at a gas station in Danville, which is about a 30-mile drive east from San Francisco.
Nearly 80,000 other tickets sold in California won prizes ranging from $2 to over $18,000 in the drawing, the lottery said. The state adjusts prizes based on the numbers of tickets sold and winners.
The Mega Millions jackpot has gone unclaimed since June 4, when an Illinois player hit the $552 million grand prize, lottery officials said.
