Winning Powerball ticket expires soon — but no one has claimed South Carolina prize
A Powerball player is set to get much richer — but hasn’t claimed the prize yet.
Now time is running out, given the $50,000 ticket’s expiration date, the South Carolina Education Lottery wrote in a June 13 news release.
The win dates to Christmas Day, when the lottery player bought the lucky $2 ticket at a QuikTrip convenience store in Mauldin. The Greenville-area ticket matched all but one number picked in the Dec. 25 drawing, results show.
The winning numbers: white balls 5-12-20-24-29, with red Powerball 4.
The ticket matched four of the white balls and the red ball to win big. It was one number from scoring the jackpot prize, estimated at $660 million the night of the drawing, according to the Powerball website.
In South Carolina, winners of drawing games have about six months to come forward. That means the deadline to cash in at the claims center in Columbia is 4 p.m. Friday, June 21. Mailed claims “must be postmarked by Saturday, June 22.”
As of about 2:30 p.m. June 13, no one had come forward, lottery spokesperson Holli Armstrong told McClatchy News in an email.
“If the prize is not claimed, the $50,000 winnings will be deposited in the Education Lottery Account to support educational programs in South Carolina,” lottery officials said.
