A diver died after surfacing from a popular hot springs crater in Utah, reports say.

The 43-year-old woman was diving in the Homestead Crater in Midway on Tuesday, May 14, KSL reported.

The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office told KTVZ she “experienced difficulty” after she surfaced at about 6:30 p.m. CPR was performed at the crater and first responders airlifted her to a hospital, where she died later that evening, the station reported.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating and will determine the cause of death, ABC4 reported.

The geothermal spring attracts swimmers and divers year-round, according to its website. It’s the only warm scuba destination in the continental U.S. with an average temperature of 95 degrees Fahrenheit.

Midway is about a 45-mile drive southeast from Salt Lake City.
