71-year-old found shot dead in home 20 years ago, California cops say. Arrest now made
Twenty years after a man was found dead inside his home, there has been an arrest in his killing, California deputies say.
Dennis Leroy Wood, 71, was found shot to death inside his Moorpark home during a welfare check on April 16, 2004, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said in a May 15 news release.
His death was ruled a homicide, deputies said.
Over the years, deputies said they “periodically reviewed the case,” and investigators identified Antoine Nehme as a possible suspect in Wood’s death, according to deputies.
Last year, deputies said they reopened the case and found evidence linking Nehme to Wood and his death.
Nehme was arrested on May 14, deputies said.
Sgt. Albert Ramirez told the Ventura County Star the pair knew one another and “conducted business together.”
Investigation showed Nehme fatally shot Wood “for financial gain,” Ramirez told the newspaper.
Nehme is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit a crime, online jail records show. He is being held on $2 million bail and expected to appear in court on May 16.
Records did not list information about his legal representation.
