A dog is dead and another is missing after a dog day care in Washington caught on fire, the dogs’ owner said.

Officials responded to The Dog Resort in Seattle after workers reported “heavy smoke” coming from the second floor, according to a Nov. 14 Facebook post by the city’s fire department.

The staff was evacuated and officials put the dogs in a “gated area a safe distance” from the building, officials said.

Crew members put water on the fire and searched the building for any “remaining dogs,” the post said.

Firefighters put out the blaze and dogs that got loose were returned to the area hours later, officials said.

Some dogs were reunited with their owners, officials said. But Allison Scarborough, an owner of two of the dogs at the boarding house, said one of her dogs was killed and another is missing, according to a post on Facebook.

Scarborough, who is in Japan, said her 3-year-old mixed breed named Remi is missing, according to a post on the Lost and Found Pets of King County’s Facebook page.

“I am absolutely crushed,” Scarborough said in the Facebook post.

Scarborough’s other dog, Georgie, was found near a highway in the area of The Dog Resort, she said.

“I spoke with that facility and they were unaware Georgie had been killed and they said they didn’t know where Remi was,” Scarborough told KOMO News.

In an update posted the same day, Scarborough said Remi was “spotted at the railroad tracks” near the Costco in Seattle.

Fire officials said there were no injuries.

Firefighters don’t know what caused the blaze but the investigation is ongoing, the release said.
