A 4-year-old boy is recovering after police say he was struck by an SUV while trick-or-treating on Halloween in Pennsylvania.

Tiffany Hawk took to Facebook after a driver hit her son and took off.

“You could’ve killed my son and didn’t even care enough to stop,” she wrote on Facebook.

Butler police used surveillance footage to determine the vehicle was a dark green GMC or Chevrolet SUV, according to WPXI.

Hawk said she was trying to stop her son from crossing a street, right before the SUV’s rear right side hit her son, WTAE reported.

“I was like … are they not going to stop to see if they just hit my son? And nope. They didn’t stop,” Hawk told the outlet. “It’s Halloween. There were no cars parked on the side of the road. You could clearly see I’m wearing bright yellow. There are kids everywhere. You think that you would slow down for children.”

Hawk told McClatchy News in a Facebook message that their family has been impacted by the incident.

“Our son is a happy, rambunctious little boy that loves cars and dinosaurs. His dad and I are very affected by this and so is his older sister who watched all of this happen,” she said.

Officials say it’s possible the driver didn’t realize they hit the child, WPXI reported.

“I understand accidents happen, but take accountability for your actions. My 4 year old son almost died last night in-front of his parents and siblings,” Hawk said in another Facebook post.

Butler is about 35 miles north of Pittsburgh.
