A stray dog was stuck about 8 feet below a North Carolina porch — until crews rushed in to help, photos show.

The dog fell into a narrow crawl space and couldn’t get back out early Monday, Oct. 23, according to the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies in the Animal Services division joined officials from the Durham Fire Department at the scene. Photos shared on social media show first responders lowering themselves under a building to reach the dog.

Crews found the pup trapped in a “confined space nearly eight feet deep” and pulled her to safety. The rescue took about 30 minutes, according to firefighters.

“We’ve determined the pet is a stray with no microchip,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post. “The animal is safe & sound & was transported to the Durham County Animal Shelter.”

The rescue was reported along East Pettigrew Street, about a half mile from the main campus of Durham Technical Community College.
