Mushroom pickers lost in Oregon woods call 911, cops say. Deputy comes to their rescue
Three mushroom pickers called for help after losing their way in Oregon woods, authorities said.
A deputy tracked them down.
At 7:06 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, a man called 911 to say he was lost with two other mushroom pickers, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
Authorities said they got their GPS coordinates and sent a patrol sergeant to look for the man and two women.
The deputy found the pickers’ empty vehicle along U.S. Highway 101, near mile marker 248, and set out into the woods to find them, the post said.
“The supervisor traversed the brush, woods, creeks, and thorns, ultimately finding the lost individuals,” deputies said.
The deputy led the group out of the woods, and a trooper drove them back to their vehicle, deputies said.
“Although dehydrated and embarrassed, the three mushroom pickers were unharmed,” deputies said in the post.
Authorities advised the public to bring some form of GPS when in the outdoors, as well as extra food and water.
Coos County is in southwestern Oregon, along the coastline.
