17-year-old girl run over in parade after tumbling off trailer, Washington officials say
A 17-year-old girl tumbled off a tractor-trailer, which then ran her over, during a harvest parade, Washington officials reported.
The accident took place shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, in Battle Ground during Harvest Days festivities, the city said in a news release.
After the accident, parade-goers notified authorities and rushed to help, officials said. She was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, although she was alert and talking.
“I would like to commend the members of the public for jumping into action when they witnessed this tragic event,” police Chief Mike Fort said in a statement.
Organizers also swiftly changed the parade route to clear streets for emergency vehicles, officials said.
The city did not release the girl’s name.
Battle Ground police are investigating the accident with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Washington State Patrol, officials said.
Battle Ground is a city of 22,000 people about 25 miles north of Portland, Oregon.
