Barbie’s Malibu Dreamhouse gets hot pink makeover — now with ‘maximum Kenergy.’ See it
Barbie handed Ken the keys to her Malibu DreamHouse this summer, and he took some daring (read: hot, hot pink) creative liberties with the remodel.
Now four lucky fans can experience all the “Kenergy” the life-size “Kendom” has to offer, according to an Airbnb listing written from Ken’s point of view.
“Welcome to my Kendom! While Barbie is away, she handed over the keys to her Malibu DreamHouse this summer and my room could be yours for the night,” the listing says. “I’ve added a few touches to bring some much-needed Kenergy to the newly renovated and iconic Malibu DreamHouse. Placed perfectly above the beach with panoramic views, this life-size toy pink mansion is a dream come true!”
Those ”Kenergy”-inspired touches include lots of cowboy hats, horses, guitars and roller blades. Guests can “live in technicolor” with access to Ken’s “awesome wardrobe” to find their best beach fit, channel their inner cowboy on the outdoor disco dance floor, and will take home a set of yellow and pink Impala skates and a surfboard after their stay in the dreamhouse, according to the listing.
“I’ve decked out the place with a little more…well, me! I’m more than just a beach!” the listing says. “My cowboy stuff is great. And horses! Guitars, games and more. And of course, rollerblades, because I literally go nowhere without them. Now, guests can live it up Ken-style for a neon night in Barbie Land — six-pack not included.”
The space was first offered as a “once-in-a-lifetime chance” on Airbnb in 2019 — when the dreamhouse was considerably less pink, McClatchy News previously reported.
But with all the buzz from the highly-anticipated ”Barbie” movie coming to theaters in July, the company wasn’t about to pass up an opportunity to celebrate.
The company is also honoring Barbie’s message of empowering girls to be anything they want to be. Airbnb will donate to Save the Children, a charity that “provides learning resources and support to children, families, and communities in 100+ countries to build girls’ confidence and help them excel in school — ensuring everyone has equal opportunity to achieve success,” the listing says.
The hot pink mansion is catching lots of attention on social media. A tweet about it was included in a branding expert’s thread praising the movie’s marketing team’s work promoting the movie.
Barbie The Movie posted about it on Instagram.
“The Barbie Malibu DreamHouse is back on Airbnb — but this time, Ken’s hosting,” the post says. “While everyone’s favorite doll makes her live action film debut in BARBIE, Ken transformed the pink palace with maximum Kenergy — cowboy hats, rollerblades, you name it.”
“Does it come with a Ryan Gosling?” someone wondered in the comments.
Anyone in Barbie Land can request to book the stay starting on July 17 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. Two one-night stays are available for two guests on July 21 — the day the movie premiers in theaters — and July 22.
And while it isn’t a contest or giveaway, the actual stay won’t cost guests a thing. But they will be responsible for their own travel to and from the dreamhouse.
“The stay will cost zero dollars, as Ken couldn’t figure out how to put a price on Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse,” Airbnb said on Instagram.
