The bodies of two juveniles were pulled from an Indiana river after they disappeared while swimming, authorities say.

Indiana conservation officers responded to White River in Martin County around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 3, for a report of two people who went missing in the water, Indiana Department of Natural Resources said in a news release.

“Witnesses said the two had been swimming in the river and were last seen being carried downstream by the current and then going under the surface of the water,” according to the release.

A half-dozen agencies assisted in the search, which involved airboats, sonar and divers.

The bodies of the juveniles were later recovered. Authorities said they drowned.

Both victims were 16-year-olds, WRTV reported. One of the boy’s bodies was found Sunday several hundred yards downstream, while the other was found a mile away, according to The Associated Press.

The boys have not been publicly identified.

Martin County is about 105 miles southwest of Indianapolis.
