A man died after accidentally backing his four-wheeler into a creek, a Colorado sheriff’s office said.

Michael Olshove, 94, was “working on his property” when a bystander saw him back his ATV into West Creek in Gateway on Saturday, May 6, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said in a May 8 news release.

He “was swept away along with the ATV,” deputies said.

The sheriff’s office said multiple agencies responded to search for the man after the bystander called 911.

About “a quarter mile downstream,” deputies said they found Olshove “unconscious and not breathing.”

Despite “life-saving measures,” Olshove was pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said.

Gateway is about 50 miles southwest of Grand Junction.
