16-year-old dies after crashing his Jeep on way to swim practice, Indiana cops say

A 16-year-old high schooler died two days after he crashed his Jeep into an apartment building, according to local news reports in Indiana.

Police in Carmel, a suburb of Indianapolis, said the crash happened around 5:20 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, according to WISH. Michael Jent was driving on Main Street when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an apartment building, the TV station reported.

Jent, a junior at Carmel High School, had been driving to swim practice, the Carmel Current reported. He was the only person in the vehicle, according to WIBC.

The Indianapolis Star said the 16-year-old suffered a brain bleed as well as broken ribs, femur and skull. He was placed in a medically-induced coma.

Jent died on Sunday, Jan. 8, according to news reports.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Jent family as well as the students and staff of Carmel High School as they continue to process this tragic loss,” Carmel Police Lt. Tim Byrne told WTHR.
